Title: Designing tunable photonic crystals with band gaps in microwave range

Abstract: With the aid of computer simulations we design a tunable 3D photonic crystal with band gaps in microwave range. Results show a simple diamond configuration of spheres micromachined on ferroelectrics could have stop bands in the range of approximativelly 3 similar to 15 GHz, if the voltage is appropriately triggered. The range is covered for dielectric constant epsilon between 15 and 200, which is easy to achieve in the microwaves for most lossless ferroelectric materials.
