The National Institute of R&D for Optoelectronics was established on 15 November 1996 by order of the Romanian Government. Its history is closely connected with the technological branches of physics, chemistry, high pressure physics, optics and fine mechanics developed on the area of Institute of Atomic Physics from Bucharest, Research Platform from Cluj - Napoca and Fine Mechanics Platform from Bucharest.

 

The institute has two subsidiaries: Institute of Analytical Instrumentation Research (ICIA) Cluj-Napoca and Institute of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Research (IHP).

The year 2007 was very successful, pointing the way to the future: record investments in infrastructure were achieved and a large number of scientific projects were accepted to be financed, assuring the future development of the institute. National Institute of R&D for Optoelectronics is now a much performed partner in the FP 7, Culture 2000, COST, EcoLINKS, ESTROM etc. covering a large spectrum of equipment and expertise.
